RISING has concluded a year of delays with the American release of their debut album. Those who picked up To Solemn Ash in Europe last October may have told you that it’s a strong work of the classic doom/sludge genre that brings you some of the heaviest talent that Denmark has to offer. The album has a mixture of influence, borrowing from the eclectic MASTODON and the groovy punk style of their Scandinavian forbearers, ENTOMBED. The songs are kind of catchy, but lack the intensity to make this band an instant success. The strong suit of this album is its composition; for those who enjoy a constant shift in the progression, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll take a liking to To Solemn Ash. It has a lot of good melodies written into beats, which often switch in time signature. One thing that RISING has in comparison to other bands coming up in the doom metal scene is authenticity. Their raw energy has the makings of a band that can bring together a loyal fan base for a very long time. (NP)
