This masterpiece concludes EARTH’s ‘Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light’ saga. To put it lightly, EARTH owned last year’s best-of lists with their triumphant follow-up to game changer The Bees Made Honey In The Lion’s Skull, only to dominate this year’s entire musical output before the RNC even pops off! Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light: II falls in exactly where you expected and hoped Dylan Carlson and crew would go. The album opens with “Sigil of Brass”, homage to (or perfection of the ‘numbered’ albums that were EARTH’s formative efforts; a melodic, droning, beautifully emotive tone poem that cascades and crescendos it’s way into the dynamic, hypnotic and haunting body of the best album of 2012. If this is truly our last go ’round, EARTH has given all of humanity a true gift in Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light: II. (PPH)
