It’s no surprise that many people have a hard time listening to punk. Not only is it loud, fast and aggressive; it also screams of the ugly truths that the mild-mannered masses would prefer to ignore, or even deny. Punk is a legitimate threat to the false sense of security and illusion of prosperity the powers that be have created, which bands like ATU seek to destroy. The new Black Sands 7” is a thirteen-minute barrage of politically charged crust/crossover with dual screaming in-your-face vocals. The record delivers heavy thrashing riffs of epic proportions from start to finish, never disappointing the listener’s ears. Few bands can combine killer music with political lyrics this well! The title track, “Black Sands” and the album artwork are a statement on environmental damage caused by the negligence of oil corporations, while “Shocked Shackled And Hanged” sheds lights on human rights abuse. “The End Of Complacency” is a punk anthem with great dual vocals and epic riffs. This record simply kicks ass! (Dylan Burton)
