Chris Brock of Early Graves talks briefly about playing SXSW, their new lead singer, and upcoming plans

Stoked to hear about the shows in March!! Are you guys more excited about SXSW, or the road and shows between here and there and back? What do you guys have planned for SXSW?
Thanks! We are stoked to just be playing and touring again. After the few years that we have had and not being able to be on the road, it’s nice to look ahead and see something positive on the horizon. SXSW should be fun, but I think we are equally excited just to be playing shows in general, although I am sure that SXSW is going to be amazing.

John Strachan, singer of LA’s THE FUNERAL PYRE, has assumed vocal duties for EARLY GRAVES. Is this a permanent move?
Yeah, John is our permanent singer now. He has been great and we have been writing a lot of new things with him so he is definitely here to stay.

How was your recent (Dec ’11) mini-tour?
The little mini tour, it was really just 4 shows, was awesome. It was good to get our sea legs wet and all the shows were surprisingly great. Good turn outs, lots of new and old people, and honestly just fun to do this band again.

You guys are working on material now, I heard for a split. How many songs are you guys doing, how are they feeling, and who will you guys be doing the split with?
I can’t really say much about the split yet, other than we are excited as to who it’s with and that our new songs are awesome. I am not sure yet how many songs we are doing for the split, but we have a ton of new material we are writing right now and its all super aggressive. I won’t bore anything with the old “heavier, yet more melodic” line, but our new songs are almost two years of us being pent up and pissed.

Aside from the split, what plans do the band have in the upcoming months?
We are working on the split, a full length and tours in the next coming months to year. Hopefully we can get all of those things rolling really soon because I am certainly anxious for people to hear our new songs in a recorded setting!
